Rondje Pampus Challenge

The enthusiasm for participating in open water swimming events is on the rise, with the Rondje Pampus 2024 emerging as one of the highlights on the Dutch open water swimming calendar. This unique event offers swimming enthusiasts the opportunity to swim in the historic waters around Fortisland Pampus. It’s a special experience that is both challenging and rewarding. However, not everyone can be present at the iconic swimming event on Saturday, 27 July 2024. Fortunately, there exists a possibility to partake in Rondje Pampus, regardless of where you are or your availability on the date of the swimming event. This alternative, the Rondje Pampus Challenge 2024, allows you to participate virtually from any location of your choosing!

Swim a distance of 900, 1800, or 2700 meters in open water or in a pool during the weekend of the Round Pampus swimming event. Register this swimming activity with your watch or mobile phone and share the result with us on Strava. Not only do you stand a chance to win one of the ten starting permits for the next edition of Round Pampus, but you also help to draw attention to the vulnerable nature in the IJsselmeer area.

Sign up for the challenge

To participate in this virtual challenge, it has been decided to make entry as simple and accessible as possible. Firstly, you are expected to join the Rondje Pampus Strava Club, where more than 300 open water swimmers share their swimming performances and experiences with each other. This step requires just a simple click on the orange ‘Join Club’ button found on our Strava Club page.

Subsequently, Challenge participants have the flexibility to swim 900, 1800, or 2700 meters on 27 and 28 July, either in open water or in a swimming pool. The official registration of this swimming activity is through a smartwatch or mobile phone, after which you share the result on Strava with the following specific hashtags in the description of the activity: #rondjepampus #openwater #fishmigrationriver. It is also important that participants adjust their Strava privacy settings to make their swimming activity accessible to all other members of the Round Pampus Strava Club, thereby creating a sense of connection and joint achievement.

Participation in the Rondje Pampus Challenge 2024 is more than a personal sporting achievement; it is also a contribution to a worthy natural cause. By taking part in the Challenge, swimmers not only work on their own health and wellbeing but also contribute to the conservation of nature in and around the IJsselmeer. This year, Rondje Pampus has partnered with the nature project of It Fryske Gea for the planting of native vegetation around the Fish Migration River near the Afsluitdijk. An initiative that is essential for the biodiversity and ecological health of the area.

Moreover, Challenge participants stand a chance to win one of ten free starting permits for the next Rondje Pampus open water swimming event. Another reason to participate and put your best foot forward. Those who are already members of the Rondje Pampus Strava Club do not need to re-register and can directly participate in the Rondje Pampus Challenge 2024.
